A red moon (or "blood moon") occurs during a total lunar eclipse when the Earth passes directly between the sun and moon, casting a red, filtered light onto the moon. The moon turns a deep copper-red because Earth's atmosphere scatters blue light and bends red light onto the lunar surface. This is one of nature's way to remind us that different views can uncover new insights.
